For some reason Judi wanted to take several opportunities to celebrate my birthday this year. So we went out in Kona, Waimea at the north end of the island and Ken’s Pancake House in Hilo. We also stopped for malasadas (a Polynesian doughnut-like pastry) at Tex’s on the Hamakua Coast. What a week!
On January 16th, several former students and staff got together at our house for a small reunion breakfast. It was great to connect with several former staff and students.

That evening Polynesian dances were performed and the flags from all the students’ nations were…
After our old car died near the end of last year, the first week of January Judi and I bought a 2012 Honda Civic. We are enjoying the new set of wheels.
On Christmas morning we all drove to Fresno to be together for the day. It was a special treat to have all three of our children, their spouses and their children together for the day. That is a very rare occurrence and we enjoyed it very much. We traveled back up to northern California and…
Just before Christmas Judi and I connected with Judi’s sister Marilyn Daugherty’s family. They celebrated Marilyn’s birthday at Disneyland and we joined them for a day. Marilyn’s daughter Lynn brought her new twin daughters. It was a treat to hold these precious little ones.
While Judi and I were in California in December we had the opportunity to celebrate my mom’s 96th birthday by taking her to one of our favorite Italian restaurants in San Jose, Georgio’s. The food was great and it was a special treat to have this time with my mom.
I had the opportunity to share in a couple of Kona courses in preparation for their two to three month overseas assignments. I always enjoy these times of excitement, as students are anticipating what life will be like for the next two to three months somewhere else in the world.
On Thanksgiving Day, Judi and I were with Judi’s side of the family in Kansas. One of the treats during that day was holding our newest family members, our great niece twins Addison Belle and Harper Marian. We also talked with our children in California, Lisa with Daniel and Kim in southern California as well…
